Sinterized particle technology love

Today the tile guys came, two to work on the guest house bathroom floors and two to install the counters in the BBQ room. Dave was the first to arrive but he only stayed for an hour. After he left, Scott showed up and installed the electronic interfaces for the heating. The first few hours of sunlight were overpowered by an intense rainfall that fortunately slowed down to a light shower by the time the tile guys got busy.

For safety reasons, Paco and Junior recommended cutting the grey floor tiles down to a smaller size for the shower floor. They said the additional grout lines would make the floor less slippery, which made sense, so we agreed. Yesterday they installed the heating for the bathroom floors and today they installed the tile floor in the bathroom. Tomorrow they grout and Thursday Dave and Corey will hang the floating vanity. Then the tile guy returns to do the counter template. Then the plumbers will return.

The real excitement today was taking place in the BBQ room where the Dekton countertops were being installed. Dekton is a relatively new product and today was the first time the installers had ever worked with the material. We fell in love with it the first time we saw a sample and were pretty confident its flat white and smooth surface would be the perfect complement to the cabinetry.

According to the Cosentino website, "Dekton employs exclusive Sinterized Particle Technology, a high tech process which represents an accelerated version of the metamorphic change that natural stone undergoes when subjected to high temperatures and pressure over thousands of years. Electronic microscopy allows us to fully appreciate the material’s zero porosity, a consequence of the sinterization and ultra-compaction process exclusive to DEKTON. This zero porosity and lack of the micro-defects that cause tension or weak spots mark the difference as far as DEKTON is concerned." We were more impressed by its 25 year warranty.

Tomorrow the backsplash gets installed. It's going to look so cool….

The forecast is for rain through Friday and possibly some thunderstorms on Thursday. And lots more tiling on Steinback Mountain.

  1. That backsplash is going to be KILLER!!! Everything is coming together, and it's starting to look like a house again, instead of a demolition site. :)
